Badger Springs Science Fair

Badger Springs Science Fair Last week, we had our school science fair competition, where the students were interviewed and judged. Approximately 600 students participated and have been working on these projects since the beginning of December. The judges picked a total of 66 boards that were moved into the after school judging. We are only allowed to send 15 boards to the district competition so we had to narrow them down even further. The students worked hard and have great projects that they brought in.

Holiday Card:
Advanced Art student, Humberto R. designed this fabulous Holiday Card. It was sent out to all of the schools and offices throughout the district. I'm not sure if you remember last year’s holiday card, but if you do, Humberto incorporated last year’s card into his card this year (hint: it’s the picture hanging above the chimney to the left of the wreath).

Badger Springs African-American Parents Discuss the Achievement Gap

Badger Springs African-American Parents Discuss the Achievement Gap Badger Springs Middle School kicked off its first African-American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC) meeting of the year by addressing the big issue: the achievement gap for African-American students. After looking at data, parents discussed barriers that get in the way of academic success, and what students need to overcome them. The consensus was that they need more guidance.

Parents went away from the meeting with a commitment to help BSMS AAPAC grow; the goal is for “each one to reach one,” and encourage more parents to be strong advocates for their children’s education – which, by the way, is in keeping with the district's new Strategic Plan!
